Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild Exhibits
Exhibits maintains a collection of beadwork on loan from members and also beadwork that is owned by the GLBG. These items are displayed at various times throughout the year, at various locations in the Detroit Metro area. Items are primarily displayed in Public Libraries, in which they are very popular and well received. The Exhibits collection has been displayed annually in March in Southfield Public Library since 2010. Many libraries have requested that GLBG Exhibits return for future displays.
Exhibits is also responsible for curating a display for The City Gallery, located in the Farmington Hills Costick Center, to be installed annually in September to October. The Synergy competition pieces are displayed for this installation for the conclusion of the contest.
Exhibits also displays members’ work during Maker Faire Detroit in the GLBG Maker booth. Maker Faire Detroit takes place at The Henry Ford Museum at the end of July each year. GLBG has participated for three years, since the second year of the Faire in 2010.
Members: if you would like to loan your beadwork to Exhibits for display, email glbgexhibits@yahoo.com.Libraries/Galleries: If you would like GLBG Exhibits to install the collection in your show cases please email glbgexhibits@yahoo.com to schedule the display.
You may also wish to consider scheduling “The Guild Presentation” as an event in your Adults Services Programs. This outreach presentation outlines the purpose of the Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild, why attendees may be interested to join the Guild, and offers additional information about beadwork in general. This is an informational presentation only and basic beading is not taught.
